Seven days, 8am–7pm

Housework in Dalston is charged per cleaner per hour: £23 on a weekly slot, £24 on a fortnightly one. Three hours, the least we book, therefore comes to £69 or £72. Ironing is £12 an hour on top of the cleaning time, and there is no contract to sign.

Frequency Rate, per cleaner per hour A three hour visit
Weekly £23 £69
Fortnightly £24 £72
Ironing, on top of the cleaning hours £12

Why the weekly rate is the lower one

Seven days of dust comes off faster than fourteen, and the rate follows the work rather than rewarding loyalty. Nobody gets sent out for less than three hours. Most one and two bedroom conversions round here settle at exactly that once a rhythm is established. A four bedroom share runs longer because more kitchen and more bathroom are in daily use. You choose the hours and you can change them whenever.

What decides how long a Dalston flat needs

Bedrooms predict it badly. What actually predicts it is the bathroom and the number of people through the kitchen. Thames Water supplies Hackney hard, so a descaler comes out on every visit rather than once a month, and a rainfall shower in one of the Dalston Square flats wants its head taken down and left to soak instead of wiped over. The second factor is the housing. Stripped floorboards in the Georgian and early-Victorian terraces along Dalston Lane and around Albion Square have gaps that swallow dust and then hand it back a day later, and the sash windows drop grit into their tracks all year. Ex-council maisonettes on the rebuilt Holly Street blocks are the opposite: flat surfaces, sealed floors, quick. Same rate for both.

What a visit covers

  • Kitchen surfaces, sink, hob top and the fronts of the units, with the bin taken out if you say which day it goes.
  • Bathrooms properly, which around here means an acid descaler on the screen, the taps and the head, with time to let it work.
  • Floors hoovered and washed, and the hall done last so nothing is walked over twice.
  • Dusting, including the tops of doors and picture rails that everybody misses.
  • Beds changed where the clean linen is left out, and ironing added on if you want it.

Anything else you want doing comes out of the same hours. Say so and it gets fitted in.

Ironing at £12 an hour, on top

Ironing bills at £12 an hour and sits on top of the cleaning hours, so the bathroom, which the water here gives plenty to do, keeps its full share of the visit. Mention it when you book and the extra hour goes in the diary.

The first visit clears the backlog

A first clean works through the backlog. There is always one in a flat kept going by whoever had ten spare minutes, and the cleaner spends that first slot learning where things live. It settles fast. The same three hours cover far more ground by the third week. Where a flat is genuinely behind, you will be told that one team visit from £186 to reset it and a weekly slot to hold it is better value than three weekly visits spent catching up, even though the weekly slot is the smaller invoice.

Shares, who pays and who holds the key

In a house share we invoice one person and let the household settle up between themselves, because splitting a bill four ways every fortnight goes wrong eventually. Pick whoever is most organised about it. Do tell us when a name on the tenancy changes, so the key stays with the right person. Access is normally a key held here or a safe fitted by the door. Over in the Dalston Square blocks a concierge usually keeps one instead. It is the neatest option available, so long as somebody sorts it out ahead of the first visit and not on the morning itself.

How your cleaner actually gets here

Nobody arrives by tube, because Dalston has no Underground station. The Overground does one half of the work, Dalston Kingsland on the Mildmay line and Dalston Junction on the Windrush line, and the buses do the other. Daytime routes along Kingsland High Street and Balls Pond Road come to eleven between them: 30, 38, 56, 67, 76, 149, 236, 242, 243, 277 and 488. Overnight it is the N38, N76, N242 and N243. There is no weekend loading, and morning slots hold week after week best of all, while the high street is still quiet.

Cover on the weeks she cannot come

An address keeps the same cleaner for as long as the rota allows, which is quicker for us and better for you, since by the third visit nobody is opening cupboards hunting for the vacuum. Illness and holidays still happen. When one does you get a call the evening before naming who is coming instead or offering another day, and skipping a week costs nothing. Nobody is ever sent to a flat unannounced. If you would rather have a different cleaner, say so and it is arranged without anybody asking why.

Changing or stopping the visits

Give a day’s notice and a visit moves to whatever suits you. There is nothing to sign and no notice period to serve. Where a tenancy is ending rather than carrying on, the move-out clean is a fixed band from £156 and not an hourly job at all. Ring 020 8077 6967 between 8am and 7pm any day and it gets sorted out on the call.

Questions we get asked

How much is a weekly cleaner in Dalston?

£23 per cleaner per hour weekly and £24 fortnightly. Three hours weekly is £69 and four hours is £92. Three hours is the shortest visit and there is no contract.

Do I get the same cleaner every week?

Wherever the rota allows, yes, and it is faster for everyone. Holidays and illness are the exceptions. You get a call the evening before naming who is coming instead or offering another day, and skipping the week costs nothing.

Do you do ironing?

Yes, £12 an hour, added on top of the cleaning hours so nothing else in the flat loses out. Mention it when you book and the extra time goes in.

Do you bring your own materials?

Cloths, machines and detergents arrive with the cleaner. Where an allergy or a delicate floor finish means you want your own products used, put them out on the side and they get used in place of ours.

How do you get in when nobody is home?

A key held here or a safe fitted by the door covers most addresses. In the Dalston Square blocks a concierge normally keeps one, which works well provided it is arranged before the first visit.

What is the difference between this and a deep clean?

Regular cleaning is one cleaner by the hour keeping a flat that is basically in order. A deep clean is two or three cleaners taking that flat apart for half a day, from £186.
